As we are living in the digital age it is irresistible to avoid being involved in some sort of electronic screen. How to use 20-20-20 rule to reduce eye strain?
Basically, 20-20-20 rule says when you are working on a screen once in every 20 minutes you should take your eyes off of the screen and look at an object located 20 feet away from you for 20 seconds. This way you make sure you are giving yourself breaks now and then when you are working with a screen.
Further, it is explained that there is no hard and fast rule to look at an object located exactly 20 feet away from you and it is advised to try to look at something far away from you. Your eyes take 20 seconds to relax completely. So it is important to keep your gaze on the far-away object for at least 20 seconds.
The effectiveness of the 20-20-20 rule proved by research published by the Nepalese Journal of Ophthalmology. The research was based on 795 university students of Malaysia and the majority of them experienced eye strain after two continuous hours of computer use and when 20-20-20 rule used they said it reduced their eye strain. So 20-20-20 rule works!!!
Excessive screen time can cause eye strain and eye strains are unpleasant. Giving yourself time to time breaks when working on a screen is a must for your eye health. 20-20-20 rule is an excellent and scientifically proven method you can adopt going forward to refrain from screen-related eye strains.
